The Ban on R22 Refrigerant
R-22 Refrigerant Phasing Out
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) determined that R-22 refrigerant (also known as the brand FREON®), a common refrigerant for residential heat pumps and air conditioning systems, is not environmentally-friendly. The EPA is regulating the production and use of refrigerants and eventually all the air conditioning and heat pump refrigerants that contain chlorine will be eliminated.
What do you need to know?
If you currently have a heating and cooling system that uses R-22 refrigerant, you do not necessarily have to panic or run out to purchase a new system. Production of R-22 refrigerant is winding down, and while the costs will increase, production will go on until 2020. At that time recycled refrigerants should be available for a while.
Because of this change, Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Miami offers R410A, a more environmentally friendly choice for refrigerants which lowers the impact on the ozone layer. Up to 50% of home energy costs may go toward heating and cooling the home. We’re committed to offering products that are less taxing on the environment while meeting your desire for a comfortable heating and cooling system.
