We are always willing to help, but we recommend these four simple tips to check your furnace before giving us a call:
- Thermostat setting – The most significant job of a furnace is to establish a comfy and cozy climate for your home. So when outside gets cold for good, make sure you’ve changed your thermostat over to ‘heat.’
- Furnace switch – Your furnace power is composed by a switch that looks like a traditional light switch, and should be turned on. If it’s not on, flip it on and sit a few minutes. Most furnaces have a built-in time delay and your furnace won’t kick on instantly after shifting on the switch.
- Filter – Furnace filters are an essential part to your system. Not only does it sift out particles, dust and other contaminants, it impacts your furnace’s performance as well. We recommend changing out filters every three months to see the best results.
- Circuit breaker – It’s possible that the breaker titled for your furnace has been tripped. Go to your circuit breaker panel and look to see if the switch has been tripped. If it has, cycle it by turning it off and then back on. You may have to wait a few minutes for the time-delay to pass before your furnace turns back on. If you do this and your furnace still isn’t starting, give us a call and we can help figure out what is happening with your furnace so we can get it back up and running.
