Common Miami AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We’ve discussed several of the most common air conditioning problems Miami faces, but now we’re going to talk to you about some frequent air conditioning problems that you can help troubleshoot.

The A/C is on but not blowing cool air.

If your A/C system is running but not truly cooling, you might need to have your refrigerant levels examined. Refrigerant is important to make sure the air being released from the AC is actually cool and keeps your family comfortable. Low refrigerant is commonly a sign of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

A simple way to check if you are low on refrigerant is to find the two copper pipes on your AC system. If the bigger pipe is “sweating” or giving off condensation, feel the pipe to see if it’s cold. If it feels cold, you are probably good to go and do not need additional refrigerant.

If you’re unsure or the pipe is not producing condensation and is not cold when you feel it, call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning and we’ll stop by and confirm your refrigerant levels and find out why your A/C system is not blowing cool air. Note: only an EPA Certified technician should manage refrigerant for central air conditioners, due to the hazards of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t spinning.

There are several reasons your condenser fan may not be circulating. One could be that it just burned out and you need a replacement. Humidity tends to cause more condensation so another issue could be that the water is not draining properly or that the drain is hindered. If you can verify these things, you may be able to find the issue; but, if not, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call and we can look into what is keeping your condenser fan from circulating and go over your options to get your air conditioner problem corrected.

Your air conditioning system is not providing ample air cooling.

The first step is to try decreasing the temperature on your thermostat. It seems ridiculous but sometimes it’s easy to miss the obvious. If dropping the temperature doesn’t get your home cooling and comfortable again, check and replace the air filter. If the air filter is obstructed, it could cause serious cooling problems. Another thing that could result in your lack of cooling is an A/C system that is not sized properly, and unfortunately this is an all-too-common issue when homes are constructed. Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is happy to come out and conduct an analysis to determine if the size of your A/C system is causing your issues.

AC shuts on and off constantly

If your AC is short cycling, or turning on or off consistently, it could mean one of many things. One thing is that your condenser or evaporator is clogged or dirty and should be cleaned. Once the system is cleaned and all obstructions moved away, you may be back to a regular running air conditioner. Keep in mind that humidity also plays a role so if the house cools to the correct temperatures, but then the humidity causes the home to heat up quickly, this would contribute to an on-again, off-again air conditioner because it’s having to work vigorously to keep you cool and comfortable.

No matter your problem, whatever common or uncommon air conditioning problem you run into, Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is here for you all day, everyday. We are available all the time so we can get your air conditioner cooling and get your home comfortable quickly.
