Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last of the weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cool nights. Nothing is worse than going to bed at night just to realize your furnace won’t turn on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself before your call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should swap out standard air filters every 30 days. If you do not, they can end up clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but confirm the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so verify the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 305-440-1505 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
